Burns Flat is home to the Clinton-Sherman Industrial Airpark, also known as the Oklahoma Spaceport. This decommissioned Strategic Air Command (SAC) airbase features one of the longest runways in the US and its campus of dozens of building attracts companies engaged in the future commercial space travel business. Additional employers such as Halliburton and other major oil field service companies, farming and ranching enterprises, medical centers, justice system and government agencies such as SWODA, MODA, and OSIDA, are close by.
We are proud of the academic achievements in the area. Our public schools are ranked in the upper ten percent of the entire state. The Western Technology Center, with its excellent nursing, aviation and adult education programs is located in the heart of Burns Flat. In nearby Weatherford, Southwestern Oklahoma State University offers a full curriculum including advanced degrees (PhD and PharmD), and has a full-time enrollment of just under 5000 students.
